Snippet:

"My time is short and this rock is not to my liking, so I shall be direct. You are interred here for no less than ten years by prison counting due to your theft of the Main Fleet Vessel Seeker seven months ago. Is that correct?”

“I maintained my innocence.”

“Yes or no, please.”

“Yes. I was the duly appointed commander of the Seeker, and the Admiralty of the Fleet sought to steal my paid monies and pull the command chair out from under me with malice and intent. And, for that, I was paneled, censured, found guilty and sentenced.”

-- Ottoman John, Esq. to Stenibelle, Lady of Belmont South Tyrol.

Snippet #2:

Morgan re-appeared holding Stenibelle’s clothes. “I heard every word you said. I’ll tell you what I am Bel. I, unlike you, am someone who’s not afraid to follow her heart, no matter what cowardly bore or dreadful oaf it leads me to.”

-- Morgan-Jeterix to Stenibelle

Snippets:

In the book "101 Ways to Stay Off the IRS Radar", tax expert Abby Eisenkraft discusses the importance of reporting worldwide financial accounts.  Since many people come to the U.S. but still have ties to their birthplace, it's normal to have such accounts, but people forget about them.  It's an expensive and dangerous mistake.  The penalties are astronomical!!

Abby tells a funny story about a man who thinks the data sharing between foreign countries and the IRS is flawed.  Abby shares that the man told her the following:  "Since his name was Luigi overseas, and here in the U.S. it's Louie, the IRS will never put it together".  Abby's response -- And I thought I was the blonde.

RANDY LINDSAY is a world traveler. Which sounds impressive until you realize the worlds he visits exist only in his mind and on the pages of his novels. He claims to prefer this method of sightseeing because he can stop at any time, go to the kitchen, and indulge his ice cream addiction. When he isn't busy making things up he likes going to movies with his wife to watch what other people have made up and plays board games with his children who are in the habit of making up the rules as they go along.

Battlementals: Quest for the Harmonicon is Randy's third published book and the first in a series of stories that take place in the Battlemental universe. He switched to writing full time in 2011 and has had two novels published through Bonneville Books.

His journey as an author has been an exciting one, full of unexpected discoveries. One of those being the decision to focus more of his writing on middle-grade fantasy. The fact that the style feels more natural to Randy might be an indication that he is really just a kid at heart.

The second unexpected discovery was that he enjoyed marketing. Book signings, writing workshops, and podcasts about storytelling all gave him opportunities to discuss what he loves with others who share the same interest. This combined with the decision to write middle-grade stories led to his development of C.A.S.T. (a program intended to show children and teens how to incorporate storytelling into their everyday lives).

4.5 out of 5

The main characters in this book are in 6th grade and one 8 yr old (not sure what grade that would be in... 3rd or 4th maybe). However the word structure didn't have the middle grade or child book feel to it.  This is a good thing as it lends itself for a more adult audience being able to enjoy the book as well as youth. For example, I would recommend this book to my child who is around that age but I was still able to enjoy it myself.

The story line was enjoyable and the characteristics of the main characters was consistent. Which I feel is very important to keep this grounded in reality. A bully isn't going to suddenly chance how they act simply because they are thrown into an adventure with someone they bully. Because of this consistency it was easier to make the world the author creates feel believable.

This  book is squeaky clean and I would recommend to any fan of fantasy who is looking for a light read, or to any pre-teen or teen looking to expand their reading into fantasy.

Hunt Of The Fallen Review

Ralin is an outsider among outsiders. The dominant Users, who can manipulate their souls to create unique and powerful abilities, shun him for his lack of inborn talent. And even among his fellow exiles, he must hide his past. On the very day that he finds a lasting purpose for his life, everything is turned completely upside down.

Wanted by the government, pursued by monsters and mercenaries, and plagued by strange nightmares, the young man must travel beyond everything he has ever known to discover what is so important about him to cause such powerful people want him as an ally, or want him dead. To survive, Ralin and his allies will be pushed to the limit as they battle rock monsters, traitors, the undead, and even Ralin himself.

R.A. Zaugg (1982-still kicking) was born in Ogden, Utah, to long-time Utahan parents as the first of their brood. His childhood was filled with fun, friends, and family values that have made him who he is today. His first novel "Hunt of the Fallen" began on sticky notes as he worked in a gas station, and was the spark that lit the fire of storytelling. With a bachelor's degree in Creative Writing, he is now working on his master's degree. He currently lives in Washington State with his wife and step-son.

4.5 out of 5 Stars

Starting off this book I must admit was a bit slow, but that is understandable as it has to lay the groundwork for such a solid story to stand on. But even so it took me a bit to get into it. However once the basic premise was laid I found myself being absorbed by the story.

The world created by Author R.A. Zaugg is complex and thorough. It was constant throughout and managed to not get too bogged down in descriptions. The story was enjoyable and flowed well. Overall I really enjoyed this book. It is also clean so, while it is written for a slightly older audience, I would not hesitate to recommend it to both adults and youth who enjoy more complex story lines.

4 out of 5 stars

If you want loads of Drama, steamy romance and a bit of mystery then you will enjoy this book. For my part I liked the mystery and adventure part of the book. It was just through the middle part, and not too hard to guess the truth, but It was my favourite aspect. Anyone who had read my reviews knows I am not fond of Drama and steamy romance. But I have many friends (most of them) who would absolutely eat this book up.

This book is the 3rd in the series and I have not read the other two. There are many references to the other characters and situations from the other books (at least that is what I am guessing), so you can read this book on its own but I imagine it is much more enjoyable if you read them in order.

The characters and situations for the most part are well written and complex and it was easy to read which is why I gave it a 4 out of 5 dispute the fact I didn't particularly enjoy the book (it isn't the authors fault it is mine). I would recommend this to those who enjoy steamy romance and drama. However if you struggle with sexual content be warned that while the sex scenes are technically fade to black  there is somewhat detailed (but brief) foreplay.
